Spark Global Limited Reports:
Travel + Leisure has released its Annual World’s Best Travel Destination Awards, allowing readers to vote for their favourite destinations from around the world. The awards include best Hotels, 25 best Cities in the world and 15 best cities in the United States.
Cities were judged on attractions, landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping and overall value. Charleston, South Carolina, has been named America’s best city by T+L readers for the ninth year in a row.
If that wasn’t enough, Charleston was also the only US city to make the list of the world’s 25 best cities, coming in at number 18.
Those unfamiliar with the small East Coast city may be surprised to see it beat out the likes of New York, Chicago or Honolulu for the top spot. But for frequent visitors and longtime residents, no city deserves a coronation more than Charleston.
So why do T+L readers love Charleston so much?
I live in Charleston
Charming is a word usually used to describe small, out-of-the-way towns, but Charleston is one of the few American cities where it actually applies.
As one of the oldest cities in the United States, Charleston has many historic sites, including Fort Sumter, Middleton Square and St. Philip’s Church. In addition to these famous attractions, the city’s rich history can also be felt and seen in its cobblestone streets, gas lighting and 19th century architecture.
